 Post subject: My Death Knight in general!
PostPosted: Wed Dec 16, 2009 6:55 pm
Hey guys,

seeming that alot of people ask me about my specs, glyphs or cycles i decided to make a post about them so you can always check here if you wonder how i play my DK or something :P

First my tanking spec: (Frost)

http://eu.wowarmory.com/talent-calc.xml?cid=6&tal=0055000000000000000000000000325050003522330003010031013510052300000000000000000000000000

Glyphs:

Major Glyphs:

Glyph of Unbreakable Armor

Glyph of Frost Strike

Glyph of Obliterate

Minor Glyphs:

Glyph of Pestilence

Glyph of Raise Dead

Glyph of Horn of Winter

Cycle:

AoE: D&D -> IT -> PS -> Pestilence -> Runedump -> HB -> BB x 2 -> HB
Singletarget: IT -> PS -> OB -> BS x 2 -> Runedump -> OB x 3 -> Runedump

Runedump: Froststrike when in melee range, Deathcoil when the target is far away or CD's.

Note: These are the cycles i started off with, atm i adjust my skills to the situation i'm in, so i might not always stick to those cycles, for example: you're about to die and you need to activate your unbreakable armor which costs a frost rune, then you allready wont be able to finish those cycles, but it took me some time to be able to make an estimate of which runes to use witouth sticking to a certain cycle, so if you wanna make it easy for yourself or practise it i advise you to start with those cycles :)

My opinion: There are also Blood and Unholy tanking specs but when i started tanking i looked at alot of high end raiding tank DK's and they were all frost, i believe that frost has the best overal tanking skills, howling blast helps alot in AoE tanking for example, not saying that Blood and Unholy are bad tanking specs, but i prefer Frost ;)

Second my DPS spec: (Unholy)

http://eu.wowarmory.com/talent-calc.xml ... 0003133151

Glyphs:

Major Glyphs:

Glyph of the Ghoul

Glyph of Disease

Glyph of Dark Death

Minor Glyphs:

Glyph of Pestilence

Glyph of Raise Dead

Glyph of Horn of Winter

Cycle:

AoE: D&D -> IT -> PS -> Pestilence -> Runedump
Singletarget: IT -> PS -> SS -> BS x 2 -> Runedump

Runedump: Deathcoil or CD's

Note: With the glyph of disease you can refresh your diseases on your target by using pestilence which is perfect for AoE cause you won't have to refresh them by using a frost and unholy rune but just a single blood rune :) Single target it's still best to actually apply the diseases using the skills instead of pestilence cause when you use Icy touch or Plague strike you actually do damage and when you use pestilence you do none, which means that in the end with single target DPS you will do more damage if you actually apply the diseases using Icy touch and Plague strike, so with AoE just make sure you have the diseases on all the target and D&D on the ground, use runes you have spare to sometimes blood strike for the 5% damage increase or scourge strike for some damage, and ofcourse between everything don't forget to keep burning your runic power with death coils :) For some extra single target burst damage you can make a cycle with Empower Rune Weapon, IT -> PS -> SS -> BS x 2 -> SS x 2 -> Empower Rune Weapon -> IT -> PS -> SS -> BS x 2 -> Runedump, with this cycle you get some more burst damage but you wont be able to burn down all your runic power, but the extra Scourge Strikes are more damage then Deathcoils ;)

My opinion: Atm i think with good gear Unholy is the best DPS spec, especially with T9 you have the set bonus which makes it possible to let your diseases crit, now only blood plague can crit but before frost fever was able to crit aswell before the nerf on Unholy AoE :P Seeming that in Unholy your diseases do more damage that set bonus is best for Unholy DPS spec ;) With T10 i don't know yet which spec will be best Unholy or Blood but i suspect it will still be Unholy cause, what i've seen uptill now is that Blood and Unholy do about the same single target damage but Unholy does WAY more AoE damage.

My old DPS spec: (Blood)

http://eu.wowarmory.com/talent-calc.xml ... 0000000000

Glyphs:

Major Glyphs:

Glyph of Dark Death

Glyph of Death Strike

Glyph of Dancing Rune Weapon

Minor Glyph:

Glyph of Pestilence

Glyph of Raise Dead

Glyph of Horn of Winter

(I'm not sure if Blood's AoE actually does more DPS then the single target, it used to do more when you used the HS cycle but now that HS is nerfed i'm not sure anymore, anyway if you wanna try any AoE as blood those 2 cycles would be my choise)

AoE: IT -> PS -> DS -> HS x 2 -> Runedump -> HS x 4 -> Runedump
AoE: D&D -> IT -> PS -> Pestilence -> Runedump
Singletarget: IT -> PS -> DS -> HS x 2 -> Runedump

Runedump: Deathcoil or CD's

Note: Always keep the target that has the diseases targeted when HSing, your main hit will be more which means that your off hit will be more aswell ofcourse :)

My opinion: I think that blood DPS is a very good spec to start out with when your gear is not to great yet, fun spec, you have alot of CD's so you can get some serious burst damage if you use them all at the same time xD

And last but not least my PvP spec: (Unholy)

http://eu.wowarmory.com/talent-calc.xml ... 1003103151

Glyphs:

Major Glyphs:

Glyph of the Ghoul

Glyph of Dark Death

Glyph of Chains of Ice

Minor Glyphs:

Glyph of Pestilence

Glyph of Raise Dead

Glyph of Death's Embrace

Well in PvP you can't really have a cycle because the situations just call for you to use certain skills, it's always different, but imagine for example that someone is standing still infront of you and doing nothing then you would use the same skill cycle as the DPS Unholy one's.

AoE: D&D -> IT -> PS -> Pestilence -> Runedump
Singletarget: IT -> PS -> SS -> BS x 2 -> Runedump

Runedump: Deathcoil or CD's

Note: Like i said in PvP it calls for alot of estimation of what kind of situation you are in, you will need to use Anti magic shell, Anti magic zone, Icebound fortitude, Strangulate etc. etc. etc. all when needed, i use that stuff during raids aswell but in PvP i use it way more often :) So Cycles are alot less usefull here then in PvE.

My opinion: I think this PvP spec is very good, DK is a very good class to play in PvP, you have alot of CD's and skills to increase your survivability, Anti magic shell, Anti magic zone, Icebound fortitude, Death strike, name it lol xD

Tips: I think alot of my play style either as a Tank, DPS or in PvP is also based on the speed i press my skills, i have almost every skill binded, only the ones i don't IMMIDIATLY have to use or rarely use are not bound, My Binds: Q, E, R, T, F, G, C, V, Z and Mouse 3 and then EVERYTHING also with Ctrl so, Q + Ctrl etc. etc., another thing for the very enthusiastic people like me, i sometimes get so exited during fights that i spam my buttons to much and use one rune to many by accident, if that happens you always have your Blood Tap and Empower Rune Weapon to get you back in the cycle ;) And the last tip is using Army of the Dead as a damage increase, AotD doesn't taunt any bosses higher then 5 man, so 10 man and 25 man bosses they dont taunt, so you can use it to boost your single target damage on a boss :) Just make sure there are not any adds being tanked next to the boss cause the AotD attacks random things, and they DO taunt adds/thrash in any raid, try to cast AotD JUST before you start the fight so you don't lose any DPS time channeling it.

This is about it i think, if i think of more things to tell you guys i'll write them down here ;)

If you have any questions post them here, i'll be happy to answer them,

Greetz Dev :)
